DSC Announces a New Complete Weatherproof DVR Solution

DSC's New Weatherproof DVR Solution Provides a Cost Effective Solution for Remote Video Surveillance

Jacksonville, FL - September 10, 2010

Discount Security Cameras is pleased to make available to its customers a complete weatherproof digital video recorder (DVR) solution. The weatherproof DVR package includes everything you need for outdoor security recording. It starts with a lockable NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) rated outdoor box with fan. Inside the weatherproof box is a state-of-the-art 4 camera input DVR, a power supply to power cameras and microphones, and two power outlets for additional requirements such as heated housings and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras. Additional options include an internal monitor for on-site viewing and searching as well as a 2.4 Gig wireless bridge for transmitting distances up to 3 miles over wireless LAN.

The product provides an affordable solution to those tough remote applications where previous solutions have proven to be very costly. In the past, this type of application would require extensive trenching of cable back to a secure, climate-controlled location where the DVR was located, or a combination of network cameras and wireless technology which can be very expensive.

With the WDVR4 solution you can use standard analog cameras and there's no need to trench cable back to the DVR. A person simply plugs in a monitor to the DVR or uses the optional built-in monitor. Then they can view the cameras live or search the recorded video. If they need a permanent copy of a certain event they insert a USB flash drive into the DVR and export the video clip. You can still use wireless technology to transmit the video back to a LAN but it's optional, and if the wireless goes down you are still recording the cameras locally onto the DVR so no video is lost.

"The WDVR4 is perfect for large outside areas like parking lots, marinas, airports, and residential and office complexes." says Gary Bibeau, Sales Director of Discount Security Cameras. "One of our biggest challenges in marketing the product is letting people know that the technology is available in a convenient and affordable package."

The DVR included in the package is top of the line with all of the features you would expect from a modern DVR including real-time recording, H.264 compression, mobile phone support for viewing the cameras remotely and a fully functional central management software system (CMS) for networking, managing, and viewing multiple systems together. For example, "…one municipality has three units installed around their city park. City officials can manage and view all of the cameras from all of the units together using the CMS software.", says Bibeau.

"Our customers are using this product in lots of different ways" says Bibeau. "Gated communities use the WDVR4 to monitor common outdoor space and storage lots. The FBI is using the product for neighborhood watch programs, moving the unit around to different neighborhoods, and it's very popular with construction companies as well". The system can endure sun, rain, snow and very extreme temperatures. "We have one customer who is using the product at a construction site in the Arizona desert with temperatures up to 115 degrees without any problem", says Bibeau.

The product is available immediately from Discount Security Cameras and costs $1,999.
